Windows XP vs. Windows Vista vs. Macintosh OS X Leopard vs. Ubuntu It's a wonder why this comparison has not been made. I am submiting from a unbiased point of view. (Personally, I like Windows Vista :)

  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½
Some clarification:
If the attribute says "Built-in ****?", it means "Is it a program/feature that is available when you first install the operating system?"

If the attribute says "**** Available?", it means "Is there a third-party program that fulfills the feature?"
  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½  ï¿½ï¿½ï¿½

Edit:
*Thanks to Ultimaterist's suggestion, I will add Ubuntu (a Linux Distribution) to the comparison

*Thanks to DaleNovak's suggestion, Ubuntu has Pidgin available as a package to install.

*Thanks to Shadows's suggestion, I will list all edition of Ubuntu (No derivatives like gOS, would be way too much), including server edition.

*Thanks to pinheadx's suggestion, I made several changes to Mac OS X Leopard. Including Update Method, Built-in search technology, spelling errors, and much more.

Thanks so much to everyone's suggestions and comments! I wish I could make it a open table, but at this point, the option is not available. So keep the suggestions/corrections coming!

Thanks so much for the OS X corrections! I have no
experience at all with Leopard. So good thing to know
there's someone who knows some stuff about it. Keep up the
good work

oh yeah, and the OS X icon is wrong. If you're going with
Leopard, it's the one with the crazy northern lights
background. Or just the metallic X logo for OS X in general.

you've got a few things wrong on the Mac OS X stuff...
Allow Virtual OS should be a yes, via Parallels or VMWare
Fusion (I don't think Virtual PC comes with Windows XP, does
it?)
The NTFS (not NTSF) and FAT attributes should be switched
Search technology should be Spotlight
And the update method should include Software Update

Yeah, I am only focusing on Ubuntu Desktop 8.04 (bcuz I have
a disk).
This is the trouble with some wording. Should I consider
backup tech by defaultly installed OR by package manager.
So for backup, I'm considering it by default. Therefore, it
does not contain backup technology (by default.
Thanks for the comments!

Also, Ubuntu is usually updated automatically, (you can set
it to a day, or a week etc.) and a backup technology is
easily installed... (another category could be, "in OS
software installer" (or some such) which as far as I know,
only linux has (I mean a search and install, yes I know the
title is wrong, but I cannot think of another one)

Uhh, ubuntu actually comes in a few "flavors" (editions).
There are the "supported" by canonical - Kubuntu, Edubuntu,
and Ubuntu Server Edition - the "recognized" by canonical -
xubuntu, gobuntu, ubuntu studio, and mythbuntu - There is
the new ubuntu MID (for mobile devices) and a slew of
unofficial versions....

@dalenovak Didn't see that. I'm assuming you install Pidgin
via Package Manager? Soz, I don't use Ubuntu much (Only for
diagnostic/repair).

Ubuntu 8.04 does indeed have an Integrated Chat program
installed by default called Pidgin Internet Messenger.

Sorry, I did forget to add, nice table - great you took the
time! I've been using linux for about a year now, loving it.
I've been back on XP for a few weeks to game, missing all
the fun stuff in linux (and the stability).

@bwomp99--I should mention that these are default abilities.
VirtualBox is a 3rd-partu program.
Yes, you are right, Boot Camp only allows multiple boot.
And, Ubuntu does support 64-bit architecture., That's
something new I learned.

bwomp99 posted 2008-07-10
You can do a Virtual OS in Ubuntu via VirtualBox
(http://www.virtualbox.org/). Also, I thought Mac's Boot
Camp just allowed dual-boot, not a virtual machine. Ubuntu
also supports 64-bit processors.
